Lizard Thoughts
Reptilian comforts
make of dust and rock
a bed where armored skin
of jeweled metallic sheen
absorbs the warmth of sun and earth,
a sheath that blows away
like a discarded candy wrapper.
Ill-fitting clothes
rub past against the present,
irritating, inevitable growth
shed in reflexive lethargy
of outmoded fashion,
imprinted with ancestral patterns,
unchanged, restless instincts
