First
Snow
Summer
is long gone,
the girl's breath
and the warm summer breeze
have scattered silken seeds
of dandelion heads.
She
had made a wish and blown,
making clouds
of white fluff separate
and soar to dance and float
to destinations never known.
Now
with woolen cap
and hands thrust deep
in pockets warm and furry
she feels the welcome kiss
on icy upturned cheeks.
The
wet, fat snowflakes
slowly float and swirl
dancing in the chill wind
disappearing as they touch
her numb and blushing skin.
Closing
wet eyes
imagining that September green
sending forth the fluffy seeds
of wistful goodbyes
and longed-for tender greetings.
Soon
summer memories yield
to the present cold assault
of frozen flurry in her face
casting on rooftops and on fields
a fine and fairy lace.
Her
steamy breath excited
blows phantom seeds aloft
reminders of that farewell flight
hailing now their soft return
as an icy veil upon the earth.
Not
feeling loss nor spite
but a sudden joyful rush
fulfilling summer wishes
in flight on dancing gusts
of beauty free and white.
