Lovers in the Castle

Lovers in the Castle
(Chateau Ducal, Caen)

Alone,
surrounded
by the crumbling walls of time
rebuilt throughout the ages,
to protect and to remember.

Invisible,
to millions
who come to play
amongst the mortared stone,
to search and to remember.

Time forgotten,
no past or future,
only the warmth of the sun,
the damp of the grass,
the fragrant breath of each other,
the touches intimate and thrilling.

Tender smiles,
and eyes revealing
a place always sought,
never forgotten.
A place
where a man could give up his life
and a woman her loneliness.

Alone,
together,
protected within the fortress.
